Gelindo

območje : Piemonte
kategorija : performing arts
The Gelindo as theatre play, was born in Alto Monferrato around the XVII century by an anonymous author, and from there it has spread across the Piedmont, and in other regions of Northern Italy.
The character of Gelindo in the theaters of Piedmont, and especially in the collective imagination, is represented as a shepherd-farmer present at the scene of the Nativity and, in fact, all versions of Gelindo present the shepherd as a player of the instruments of Christmas repertoire, so the \\\\\\\"fliti, bagot and calisson\\\\\\\" (i.e flutes or pipes) together with the bagpipe. The dialect expression \"e-i ruva Gelindo!\" means that Christmas is coming, as if to emphasize the link between the character and Christmas time.
