Hea einhagern (to symbolically fence chickens) In this particular custom around Easter, palms (sometimes taller than a man), after being consecrated on Palm Sunday, are walked around the house and yard (as far as the chickens wander) to ask for God’s protection so that “the fox steals no hen”. A “boundary” is drawn between the “kingdom of foxes” and the “kingdom of the hens” (“There goes the fox and there goes the hen”). However, this must happen secretly, without being observed by anyone. If successful, the “Einhagerer” (person who draws the fence) is rewarded with a scrambled egg. Afterwards, the individual pussy willow branches are arranged in the house (especially on the family altar), the barn and fields for protection.
“Blessing of fire or blessing sticks” During the Easter Vigil, the Easter fire is flogged with sticks, usually pine or hazel wood, which are singed and then taken home. The sticks are either kept in the attic or put in the fire during bad weather to provide protection against lightning and evil.

“Antlasseier” This is a special protective effect attributed to eggs laid on Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. They are seen as imperishable and holy, but nevertheless are also brought to the Easter Vigil for consecration to enhance their effect. Distributed in the attic, they are said to protect house and home from bad weather, lightning and fire. In some places in case of a severe storm, they are also shot over the ridge of the roof to realize their complete effect. It is especially important for the men of the house to eat eggs laid on Good Friday on an empty stomach for breakfast on Easter Sunday to prevent accidents in the forest and field. Eggs laid on Holy Saturday have a similar effect for the female inhabitants.
